Diabetes and prediabetes pose a growing global health challenge. Despite strong evidence that lifestyle modification and pharmacologic interventions, such as metformin, reduce diabetes incidence, real-world uptake of prevention programs remains low. Insulin resistance is the mechanistic driver of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and related complications. Given the increasing number of people affected by insulin resistance and diabetes, there is a large heterogeneity in the phenotypes of the disease, as well as in the organ damages. Therefore, an in-depth knowledge of the disease is crucial to allowing a personalized clinical approach. This program has been designed to improve the understanding of the disease and to provide tools for early treatment, with the final aim of decreasing the burden of diabetes complications, both classical and non-classical ones.

− Understand the epidemic of diabesity
− To highlight the role of insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of vascular complications
− Explore the benefits of early treatment of insulin resistance related conditions in the prevention of long-term complications
− Define the role of insulin resistance in cognitive decline
− Recognize bone fractures as a complication of diabetes
− Increase the awareness about psychiatric disorders (depression in particular) among people with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
− Improve the recognition of childhood overweight and obesity as a health treat affecting the future of babies and adolescents
− Understand that the recognition and treatment of dysglycemia in the pre-diabetic stage may translate into long-term clinical benefits
− Highlight the clinical variables associated with increased risk of bone fractures in people with type 2 diabetes

All activities will be in English
The Case-based Virtual Roundtables will have Chinese and Spanish simultaneous translation

The Case-based Virtual Roundtables will be submitted for CME accreditation by the EACCME
