Although there have been no major innovations for the treatment of hypothyroidism since the 1970s, when thyroid extract was superseded by LT4, a synthetic L form of tetraiodothyronine, the knowledge about the pathophysiology of thyroid disorders and their systemic impact has greatly improved. This has led to new indications for LT4 treatment and to changes in clinical practice for the diagnosis and management of both clinical and subclinical hypothyroidism. Therefore, the standards of care in thyroidology need to be constantly updated and disseminated. This program aims to raise awareness about the systemic impact of hypothyroidism, even at the subclinical stage, focusing on novel aspects such as the relationship between thyroid homeostasis and cognitive, cardiac and gonadal function, as well as to disseminate to most updated recommendations from international scientific societies.

− Increase the awareness about genetic disorders affecting thyroid homeostasis
− Disseminate the novel recommendations about the optimal therapeutic approach for genetic disorders of thyroid hormone transport, metabolisms and action
− Understand the potential barriers in the ‘real life’ utilization of levothyroxine preparations to treat hypothyroidism and learn how to break down barriers
− Disseminate the most recent Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) related to the use of levothyroxine preparations to treat hypothyroidism
− Increase the awareness of the links between hypothyroidism and cognitive impairment
− Optimize the treatment of hypothyroidism in patients with heart failure
− Outline appropriate screening and management strategies for subclinical thyroid dysfunction in males with infertility, based on EBM
