Dr. Nemencio Nicodemus Jr. obtained his degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine. He did his residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Philippine General Hospital. Subsequently, he went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as part of the Visiting Clinician Program.
He is a Professor at the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and an attending consultant at the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism of the Department of Medicine at the Philippine General Hospital. He presently serves as the Vice Chair for Postgraduate Training and Training Officer of the Department of Medicine. He is currently finishing his degree of Doctor of Health Professions Education.
He is the Vice President of the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) and Council Member of the Asia & Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA).
He is the immediate Past President of the Philippine Association For The Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO) and Past President of the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (PSEDM) and Philippine Thyroid Association (PTA).
He has published several articles and book chapters on diabetes, thyroid and obesity. He is the co-lead of the Steering Committee of the Philippine Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Screening & Diagnosis of Obesity Among Adults 2023, which the Department of Health endorses. He is also part of the technical committee of the clinical practice guidelines on “diabetes in pregnancy”, “thyroid disorders in pregnancy”, “recurrent pregnancy loss,” and “well-differentiated thyroid cancer” in the Philippines.
He has also been invited as resource speaker in several regional and international conferences, including the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), International Society of Endocrinology (ISE), European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies (AFES) and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders-Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO-APC).
