PD Dr. Rachel Sommer, MPH, is Head of the Psychodermatology at the Institute for Health Services Research in Dermatology and Nursing, University Medical Center HamburgEppendorf (UKE), Germany. Her research focuses on the interface between dermatology and mental health, with a particular emphasis on chronic inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis. She specializes in patient-centered dermatology, psychosocial outcomes, stigma, and the development and evaluation of evidence-based interventions to improve clinical care and quality of life. Dr. Sommer has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in several international dermatology initiatives, including the EADV International Vitiligo Task Force. Her work has received multiple national and international awards and contributes to advancing the integration of psychodermatology into routine dermatological care. In 2021, she completed her habilitation (assistant professorship) in health services research at the Institute for Health Services Research in Dermatology and the Nursing Professions.
