George J Kahaly, MD, PhD holds the rank of Professor of Medicine and Endocrinol-ogy / Metabolism at the Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) Medical Center, Mainz, Germany. Dr. Kahaly directs the endocrine and thyroid autoimmunity program at the outpatient clinic and chairs the referral ORPHAN expert center for Graves’ orbitopathy and autoimmune polyendocrinopathy. Dr. Kahaly directs the accredited & certified ac-ademic JGU Thyroid Laboratory and has authored 323 original papers (Lancet, NEJM, JAMA) and reviews (current citation H index 55, 13121 citations).
Dr. Kahaly is the recipient of the following Awards: Canadian Society of Endocrinology & Metabolism (2022), American College of Endocrinology (2019), British Thyroid As-sociation (2019), British Medical Association Medical Book Award (2018), Best Re-viewer Award, European Thyroid Journal (2018), and Investigator Award of the Euro-pean Thyroid Association (ETA 2009).
Dr. Kahaly is Editor of the textbook DeGroot’ Endocrinology (8th Ed.). He served 2015-2019 as Editor of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and 2009-2012, as Associate Editor of the journal Thyroid, official journal of the American Thyroid As-sociation (ATA). Dr. Kahaly is member of the Publication Core Committee of the Amer-ican Endocrine Society.
Dr. Kahaly served as Treasurer and principal officer of the Executive Committee of the ETA between 2007 and 2016. Since 2000, he has also served on numerous ATA Com-mittees. Further, Dr. Kahaly served as Treasurer and principal officer of the European Group on Graves’ orbitopathy (EUGOGO) 2004-2021. In the years 2005-2011, he was member of the Executive Committee of the German Thyroid Board.
