Horacio Domené Ph.D, is co-ordinator of the Molecular Biology Laboratory at Centro de Investigaciones Endocrinológicas ‘Dr César Bergadá’ (CEDIE-CONICET), Hospital de Niños, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated in biochemistry and earned his Ph.D from the University of Buenos Aires. Further specialisation and study in molecular biology was completed both in Argentina and in the USA, where he was a Fogarty Fellow in the Developmental Endocrinology Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD) and in the Diabetes Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institute of Health.
His research focuses on the molecular diagnosis of thyroid diseases and alterations of growth. In particular, he has been involved in the characterization of genetic defects in the GH-IGF axis which result in post-receptor growth hormone insensitivity, such as STAT-5b, STAT3, and ALS deficiencies.
